Orion5 - NaOH Caustic Soda

What is NaOH, Caustic Soda 50% for Marine?

NaOH, Caustic Soda are all names given to the chemical Sodium Hydroxide.  The product is a 50% Sodium Hydroxide and water in solution.

It reduces SOx emissions from closed-loop exhaust gas scrubbers for marine diesel engines.  Used to meet the IMO2020 sulphur cap for those vessels burning heavy fuel oil (HFO) in combination with a scrubber.

All of the product we supply is made from the Chlor Akali process at industrial scale plants and is high-quality membrane grade material.

What is IMO-2020 global sulphur cap?

From the 1st of January 2020 the global upper limit on the sulphur content of ships' fuel oil will be reduced to 0.50% (from 3.50%). Known as "IMO 2020", the reduced limit is mandatory for all ships operating outside certain designated Emission Control Areas*, where the limit is already 0.10%

Scubbers were introduced as a way to meet IMO-2020 whilst still burning the most readily available and cost-effective Heavy Fuel Oil.  Scrubbers have been a great way to meet IMO-2020 legislation and still run vessels economically.
